Finding a Military Boarding School

What do you know about military schools? Like most parents, you’ve likely heard many things about boot camps and military schools for children and teens. Are military schools boot camps? Are they part of the military, or do they recruit teens from these boarding schools?

We’ve got the facts to help set the record straight for parents who may have questions and concerns. With an understanding of what military boarding schools are and how they can help, you’ll be able to decide if this is the right choice for you and your teen.

What is a military boarding school?

The best way to answer this question is that most military boarding schools are essentially just boarding schools with added structure and often a strong history of military tradition. Most of these schools don’t have an affiliation with the official US military.

That said, they have a structure and system similar to what you’d find in the military. What does this look like? In addition to the design that you’d find in the military, military schools have a ranking system that takes inspiration from military traditions and drills. As students move through the programs, they will advance through the ranks. In addition, they’ll be trusted with more responsibility and earn more privileges.

Students will live, learn, and thrive in the boarding school environment while also being able to form close friendships with peers that could just last a lifetime.

Military boarding schools strongly focus on academics, structure, and discipline. They are not always the ideal choice for every teen, but they can provide the right environment for a teen who needs better structure, is academics-focused, and is looking for an excellent way to prepare for university and a successful future.

Can military boarding schools help teens get into university?

Does your teen have his heart set on getting into a university with competitive admissions? You may be wondering if a military school can help. Military schools boast rigorous academic standards. Good students will thrive in this kind of structured environment, whereas those who are not good students may struggle a bit more.

At a military boarding school, your teen will be able to work towards his goal of meeting the competitive entrance requirements of his choice of top universities. The military emphasizes organization and discipline, which military boarding schools bring into the classroom to help motivate and encourage students.

This is an essential aspect of your teen’s education as it will help him to develop solid study habits. These good and solid study habits can help your teen get accepted into a good university and stand him in good stead once he attends the university of his choice.

Can a military school help motivate your teen?

Is your teen unmotivated when it comes to his education? Is he struggling with his mental health or other concerns? Military schools are not necessarily the best option for troubled teens. But they can be a good choice for some who are simply not thriving in their current school.

Military schools are highly structured, and supervised and can help teens regain focus when they slip. They can help teens reorganize and reprioritize so they can take a much more disciplined approach to their day and educational goals.

Even the most academically gifted teens can lose focus for a bit. A military boarding school can help a teen to understand the importance of making the best decisions for their future goals.

Do teens have to join the military?

Some military schools were once affiliated with the United States military, but that is not necessarily the case today. Many students graduate from a military boarding school and join the military, as they find it a natural transition. However, it is not expected or demanded of students once they graduate.

Teens who graduate from military school often pursue successful careers in various fields and industries. The focus on integrity, teamwork, communication, leadership, and discipline can be helpful in all study and employment areas.

Is a military school the right choice for your teen? Could this type of environment be just what he needs to get a better focus on his future?

At Liahona Academy, we pride ourselves on being able to provide teens with the right educational environment to help meet their needs and their future goals. If your teen could benefit from a structured and supportive environment, call today to learn more.
