Low self-esteem - Troubled teens with low self-esteem usually feel that they are incapable of succeeding in life. They often put forth little to no effort to complete their responsibilities or tasks such as homework, chores, or quitting negative habits. Because of this, they tend to beat themselves up and often self-sabotage.

Depression - A common symptom of depression in teens is a lack of interest or motivation in activities or responsibilities, specifically ones that they once enjoyed. Finding treatment for depression will create more success in finding the motivation troubled teens are lacking.
